Today’s Thanksgiving once again! I gotta say, these giving gratitude posts are really fun to write, and they put my mind in a happy, healthy place. Especially today’s. To Levi my 3 year-old, this one’s for you. I could thank you for teaching me obscene amounts of truck trivia or all the different ways to walk and growl like a T-Rex (and he is all business when it comes to these matters), but what few if any can remind me of better than you is joy in simple, routine life.
If you have ever been around a kid long enough, you know what I’m talking about and you know how valuable to us old, boring adults such a reminder is. “Ooo dad, it’s a GREEN GARBAGE TRUCK!” “Watch me do a mighty jump off the bed!” Even “Daddy I tooted, tee hee hee.” All are simple, everyday, powerfully blissful celebrations of cool things, amazing abilities, and healthy humor (not to mention functioning bowels!). Yes, garbage trucks are cool; they whisk your waste away and have a giant grabbing arm on the side! Yes, jumping is amazing; do you know how much has to happen just right in our bodies to pull that off? Yes, laughing at ourselves is wonderfully healthy; fun is better than fear. Levi, thank-you for proving that the simple pleasures available everywhere are well-worth remembering and embracing. You are a great joy.
Who reminds you to smile and savor the everyday joys surrounding you? Today, make sure you heal their hereafter with a dose of thanksgiving for enabling you to appreciate these simple pleasures!
