Yep, there I am…well, my toes anyway. And yep, there’s T-rex chomping at my poor digits with all the ferocity and determination of a 4-year-old. I’m not gonna lie, rubber T-rex bites can still be painful, but much less so when you’re ready for them. But that’s nothing compared to when my son himself assumes the role of the T-rex. Then I’ve got him and all his bony, pointy parts to deal with! I have to ready myself with well-placed pillows or sudden fetal positioning if I want to escape the battle unscathed. And as we all know, if he really were a T-rex, I’d be a sitting stegosaurus without major preparation, probably involving the military or a large personal supply of poisoned raw meat. I know, I’ve put some thought into this!

The point is, if you’re only a bit ready, you can only handle bitty bites. If you’re prepared for the big boys though, you’re all set no matter what. With T-rex attack rates falling into single digits (percentages now, not toes) in recent years, I concede that your prep time should probably be spent on more non-extinct problems. One of them is being able to explain your beliefs to yourself or others. It’s easy do minimal prep on this topic, such as associating yourself with Jesus or a denomination, or maybe having a favorite verse in your back pocket to whip out when the need arises. But probably sooner rather than later, the curve balls of life or the insightful questions of others will uncomfortably expose preparation that needs to be more dino-sized.

This is where Healing Hereafter can help, a book that brings together all of the Bible into a framework that remains consistent throughout the many circumstances and questions of life and reveals to you and others the satisfaction of a God who makes sense. Not only can we be well-prepared to securely quell doubt in our own faith, we can open the eyes of others to the rational and refreshing answers God shares with us throughout his word! Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some minor lacerations to attend to.
