No no, this isn’t some heretical claim that people who can only take so much harp-strumming will be trying to flee heaven. But it is one of the most important questions one can ask about whether or not heaven can truly be all it’s strung up to be! God promises his people an eternal dwelling void of mourning or crying or pain, but the concept of remembering or even observing from heaven family, friends, or anyone in hell seems to make that impossible. Is there any way to be aware of human suffering in hell while maintaining perfect bliss in heaven? Is there any way to get the hell adequately out of heaven?
So long as memory of our earthly lives and relationships remains fully intact in heaven, any solution I’ve read by even the most well-known theologians is highly—and often shockingly—problematic. These range from no longer experiencing emotion toward loved ones in hell because heaven is so joyful to being released from human emotional attachment to those in hell because they have become subhuman beings. And those are the more well thought-out answers! Needless to say, a better response to this question is needed, one that seems to require humans in heaven to not fully remember their earthly lives and relationships. Perhaps surprisingly to you, God strongly supports such an answer throughout the Bible, and we discover precisely how and why in Healing Hereafter.
How do you believe God will remove the hell out of heaven, as heaven really can’t be heaven if there isn’t a sensible answer! As always, later this week I’ll be advertising a blog, website, cause, or quote of whoever submits the most insightful comment, so leave a way for me to contact you if necessary!
